This June, World Oceans Day brought communities together to celebrate our oceans, encourage conservation and share solutions for preventing plastic pollution.
According to the “Foresight Future of the Sea” report from the UK Government Office for Science, the amount of plastic littering the world’s oceans is expected to triple within a decade. Since 8 million metric tons of plastic waste already enters our seas each year, this statistic is staggering.
“Fishing nets comprise approximately 10% of the plastic pollution in the ocean today,” says Humanscale Founder and CEO Robert King. “Our partnership with Bureo helps further our goal to achieve a net positive impact on our natural environment. The Smart Ocean task chair not only supports the health and comfort of our customers, but actually removes plastic from the ocean, supporting the overall health and well-being of a greater ecosystem.”
Featuring the same timeless design and functionality as the Diffrient Smart chair, Smart Ocean is made with almost 2 pounds of recycled fishing net material sourced from Bureo’s fishing net collection and recycling program, Net Positiva initiative.
Smart Ocean is just the first product to emerge from Humanscale’s partnership with Bureo. Together, we can reduce ocean plastic pollution and lower the industry’s dependency on new plastics.
